At Green School I joined MUN (model united nations), something that I continued back in Ireland and which has shaped my understanding and interest in policy, development and thinking in terms of global solutions.
I always find it amazing that when you do the things you love, you meet great people who help you and things change for the better because of them. We met Zoe Tryon, Amazon Activist and Explorer, when she came to talk to us at Green School. Zoe had lived with the Achuar tribe in the Ecuadorian Amazon for 20 years and from her we learned first-hand about what is happening there. She has devoted her life to helping the Achuar people and trying to bring the world’s attention to the necessity of preserving the Amazon Rainforest for all of us.
Zoe became a family friend and last year we received a call. She was taking a group into the Amazon and wanted to know if we could join them. We set off on an incredible journey where we travelled deep into Achuar territory and met the incredible indigenous people who look at the world in a different way to us.
