That evening, back in the community on the edge of the Amazon river, we meet with Domingo and Achuar members and began to talk about the potential of aquaponics with its high yields and ability to grow protein rich foods like kale and beans as well as much needed fresh foods like spinach, beans and tomatoes.  Domingo and Jose also gave us a presentation about the school they are aspiring to build in the Sharamensa community.  It is an amazing project aimed at delivering an education that is relevant to indigenous people combining indigenous and traditional education so that children do not have to leave the territory for school.  We saw how an educational facility like this could act as a bridge between worlds, and our cross-student learning idea was born.

The Amazon Aquaponics project was born.
